Porto Alegre, February 10, 2021 – The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean season remains slow in the country. Mato Grosso continues to stand out, but the states of Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais already have put some machines in the fields.
The rather wet climate in Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul has prevented better progress for the last few days. In Minas Gerais, on the other hand, the dry climate allowed agricultural machines to enter the ready crops, but the still low percentage of maturation continues to prevent a more consistent work pace. In the other states of the South region and in the North and Northeast, precipitation would still be beneficial in the coming few weeks.
According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado until February 5, 3.4% of a total sown area of 38.610 mln tons were reaped, equivalent to approximately 1.313 mln hectares. In the previous week, the index was 1.4%. In the same period last year, 15% of the area had already been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 12.6%.
In Paraná, out of a total area of 5.6 mln hectares sown, 1% was reaped, or the equivalent of around 56 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the index was 0.5%. In the same period last year, 7% were already reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 11.9%.
In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 10.3 mln hectares, 11.2% were reaped, or approximately 1.154 mln hectares. In the previous week, the index was 5%. In the same period last year, 45% had already been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 32.4%.
In Minas Gerais, out of a total area estimated at 1.82 mln hectares, 0.5% were reaped, or nearly 9 thousand hectares. For the previous week, there were no data. In the same period of the previous year, the harvest was 5% complete. The five-year average for the period is 5%.
Weather forecasts point to great rainfall over the entire North, Midwest and Southeast regions between February 5 and 11. In the main growing provinces of Argentina, the forecast is for light precipitation. In the state of Mato Grosso Sul, only light rainfall is expected for some regions, which can contribute to the advancement of machines. In the other states of the Midwest and Southeast, sting moisture is forecast, which must prevent more significant harvest progress.
In the period between February 12 and 18, moisture must remain high throughout the country, except for some regions of the Northeast, which can slow down the work.
