Porto Alegre, October 18, 2021 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop remained at an accelerated pace in most growing states. Although some more abundant rain prevented better progress in some micro-regions of the Southern, Southeastern, and Midwestern states, the sowing rate remains strong at national level, above the five-year average for this period.
According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until October 15, Brazilian growers sowed 21.1% of the total area expected for the country in 2021/22. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 8.418 million hectares sown, out of a total of 39.820 million hectares estimated for planting. In the week earlier, the percentage was 9.8%. In the same period of the previous year, the index reached 6.1%, while the five-year average for the period is 16.2%.
In Paraná, 35% of the area destined for soybeans were sown. The percentage is equivalent to nearly 1.967 million hectares planted, out of a total of 5.620 million hectares estimated for the state. In the week earlier, the percentage was 19%. In the same period last year, the index had reached 20%, while the five-year average is 36.6% for the period.
In Mato Grosso, from an expected total area of 10.82 million hectares, 45% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 4.869 million hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 21%. In the same period of the previous year, the index was 8%. The five-year average for the period is 27.8%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, the planting reaches 14% of an estimated total area of 3.45 million hectares, equivalent to around 483 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 8%, while in the same period last year, the index was 3.5%. The five-year average for the period is 16.2%.
In Goiás, from a total area estimated at 3.835 million hectares, 14% were sown, equivalent to roughly 537 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 4%, while in the same period last year, the index was 5%. The five-year average for the period is 10.4%.
In São Paulo, from a total area estimated at 1.185 million hectares, 18% were sown, or approximately 213 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 5%. In the same period of the previous year, the index was 2%, while the five-year average for the period is 6.4%.
In Minas Gerais, the planting is 13% complete of a total area estimated at 1.88 million hectares, equivalent to approximately 244,000 hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 3%. In the same period last year, the index was 3%, while the five-year average for the period is 7%.
In Bahia, from a total area estimated at 1.72 million hectares, 2% were sown, or approximately 34 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 0%, while in the same period last year the percentage was also 0%. The five-year average for the period is 0.4%.
Weather forecasts point to high rainfall in most growing states, covering all regions of the country in the period between October 15 and 21. The highest accumulated figures must be registered in the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso, and Pará. The other states must also receive rain but at lower levels.
In the period between October 22 and 28, weather maps point to the maintenance of moisture throughout the country, again with great cumulative levels expected for the states of Paraná, Minas Gerais, Goiás, and Pará, besides Mato Grosso do Sul.
The big accumulation of rain expected until the end of October may prevent better planting progress in some states.
