With the harvest practically ended, SAFRAS indicates an increase of 2.1% in the area, which stood at 37.152 million hectares. In 2018/19, the planting occupied 36.384 million hectares. The survey indicates that average productivity must increase from 3,296 to 3,371 kilograms.

In this May update, only minor adjustments were made for the average productivity registered in the states of the South, Southeast and Midwest.

In the South, albeit on a much lower scale than that registered in Rio Grande do Sul, the lack of rain also brought problems to part of Santa Catarina’s plantations this season. Thus, the average productivity of the state was revised downwards.

In the Southeast and Midwest, the completion of the harvest revealed an even better yield than that previously estimated in the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás. Such adjustments ended up compensating the losses in Santa Catarina, resulting in a small increase in the production estimate of the country compared to March. Brazil is consolidating a new record crop.
